• Tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods increased after a pivotal round of trade talks on Thursday between the United States and China failed to produce an agreement. The talks are set to continue Friday.
• North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles on Thursday, the South Korean military said. It was the second such launch in less than a week.
• The Justice Department said that the United States seized a North Korean ship that was violating American law and international sanctions, a move certain to escalate tensions.
