Stricker goes low again for new Senior Open 36-hole mark

Steve Stricker went low again Friday at the U.S. Senior Open, shooting a bogey-free round of 6-under 64 to grab the lead after the morning portion of the second round at Notre Dame.

Stricker, who opened with a record 8-under 62 to share the first-round lead with defending champion David Toms, went a Senior Open-record 14-under-par in two trips around rain-softened Warren Golf Course.

Players shot 20 under-par rounds Friday morning after totaling 42 on Thursday. Toms was among those playing in the afternoon.

Stricker had a two-stroke lead over Jerry Kelly, who won last week’s American Family Insurance Classic hosted by Stricker in their hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. Kelly shot 64 for the second straight day.

Gary Nicklaus, a son of 18-time major winner Jack Nicklaus, birdied his final hole for a 1-over 71 as his father and mother watched. That left him at 1-under 139, safely under the expected cutline of 142.
