Adrian Peterson a healthy scratch in Skins’ opener

Four-time All-Pro and 2012 NFL MVP Adrian Peterson is starting his 13th season on the sideline after the Washington Redskins made him a healthy scratch for their opener at Philadelphia.

Derrius Guice, who missed his rookie season after tearing an ACL, is Washington’s No. 1 running back and Chris Thompson and former Eagles back Wendell Smallwood also should see carries against the Eagles.

Peterson led the Redskins with 1,042 yards last season, when he scored seven times.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without starting defensive tackle Marcell Dareus (elbow) in their season opener against Kansas City. Without him, the Jags are moving Calais Campbell inside and starting rookie Josh Allen, the seventh overall pick in the NFL draft.

The Dolphins continued shuffling their offensive line: undrafted free agent Shaq Calhoun, who started every exhibition game at right guard, was inactive for the opener against the Ravens.

Panthers rookie first-round draft pick Brian Burns will start at outside linebacker against the Rams in place of Bruce Irvin, who is out with a hamstring injury.

Tennessee will take on Cleveland’s impressive defensive line without two starting offensive linemen. Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan is serving a four-game drug suspension and right guard Kevin Pamphile is out with a knee injury. Jamil Douglas will start for Pamphile.

Bills receiver Andre Roberts was ruled out on Friday, so he won’t be facing the Jets, his former team, after making the Pro Bowl last season. Tight end Tyler Kroft wasn’t expected to play after getting only a week of practice.

For the Jets, cornerback Trumaine Johnson (hamstring), wide receiver Robby Anderson (calf) and wide receiver Braxton Berrios (hamstring) are all active after being questionable for the game. Veteran running back Bilal Powell is a healthy scratch. He’s behind Le’Veon Bell and Ty Montgomery on the depth chart.

Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs was in the lineup against Atlanta after being listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.

With Matt Gono out, the Falcons will give rookie Kaleb McGary the start at right tackle despite a heart procedure the first-round draft pick underwent early in training camp that set his conditioning back. Jamon Brown, who signed a three-year, $18.75 million contract in free agency, was beat out for the starting job at left guard by James Carpenter.
